2010 Australian Kodokan Judo Championships

Enclosed herewith please find entry forms for the 2010 A.K.J.A. Australian Kodokan Judo Championships that will be held at the La Trobe University Sports Centre, Bundoora Campus, Melbourne, Victoria on the 1st, 2nd. and 3rd. October, 2010. The official opening of the Championships will be at 10.00 am on the 2nd. October, 2010, with the Shiai competitions commencing straight after the official opening and also at the same time on the 3rd. October, 2010.

Weigh–In

The official shiai weigh-in will be held between 8.30 am and 9.00 am on each day of the shiai competitions. Only one attempt at official weigh-in will be permitted. Trial weighing will be allowed on each day of the shiai competition between 8am and 8.30am. Junior Competitors may also weigh-in officially at 6pm Friday evening if they so desire. The Junior and Intermediate categories will be held on the 2nd. October and the Seniors and Veterans on the 3rd. October.

Clubs & Associations

State Associations and Clubs are reminded that all entries must be lodged on the proper entry forms with the A.K.J.A., together with the appropriate fee of $50.00 per category for seniors and $35.00 per category for Juniors by no later than the 1st. September, 2010. Entries made after this date carry an entry fee of $75.00 per category and will be accepted up until seven (7) days prior to the Championships starting. No entry without the appropriate fee and on the proper form will be accepted. Entries into the open categories are free if the entrant has competed in a weight category. All entries with the appropriate fees must be directed to the A.K.J.A., P.O. Box 74, Moreland, Victoria. 3058.

Competitor Birth Dates

Competitors must be entered in the appropriate age and weight category to which they belong, with the exception of the Intermediate Categories 16 to 19 years inclusive, who may also enter the appropriate senior weight category with an additional entry fee of $25.00 if they so desire. States and Clubs are reminded that Natural Birth date applies at all A.K.J.A. Tournaments and all competitors must be within the proper age limit entered into on the day of the Tournament. Random proof of birth date checks may be made at the discretion of the A.K.J.A.; States and clubs should also note that unlimited competitors per weight category may be entered per State.

States and clubs should photo copy and must have each competitor complete the individual entry form and waiver also enclosed herewith and have their team leader bring them to the tournament. The A.K.J.A. only requires the mass entry forms to be sent in by the due date.

Penalties

Please note that Intermediate and Senior category competitors who do not make the weight of their officially nominated category shall either be disqualified or charged an additional $75.00 entry fee to be re-entered in a different category. No penalties will be applied to juniors not making their officially nominated weight, however, we do ask that State and Clubs to ensure that their junior entries are correct, otherwise penalties for this category will have to be re-introduced. The A.K.J.A. reserves the right to amalgamate divisions or separate ages as may be required on the day. Juniors with an abnormal discrepancy to their nearest age and weight category may be moved a maximum of two years in age.

Kata Tournament

The Kata Tournament entry fee is $50.00 per team per Kata, $80.00 per team for two Kata, plus $20.00 for each additional Kata thereafter. The Kata to be contested are Nage-no-Kata, Katame-no-kata, Kime-no-kata, Ju-no-Kata and Kodokan Goshin Jitsu. Separate Kata entry forms are also enclosed herewith. Kata entries and the appropriate fees must be lodged at the same time as the Shiai entries. A kata competitor competing in one Kata cannot compete in the same Kata with a different partner. Kata competitors must report to the control table 30 minutes before the start of the Kata tournament at 5.00 pm on the 1st. October, 2010.

Referees

All States are requested to submit a list of their active ranked referees who are willing and able to attend these Championships in a refereeing capacity if selected. In addition a list of active candidate referees who should hold a minimum of a State ‘A’ licence and who wish to undertake examination at these championships for a National referee licence should also be submitted at the same time. Both Referee and candidate referee lists must be lodged with the A.K.J.A., P.O. Box 74, Moreland, Victoria, 3058 by not later than 12th. September 2010.

In addition the referee activity record forms enclosed herewith must be completed and returned with the referee nominations. No referee will be considered whose activity form is not returned duly completed. States and Clubs should ensure that all referees, including candidates, wear the official A.K.J.A. uniform of navy jacket, grey trousers, navy socks. Pocket badges for the jackets will be sent out on request or provided on the day.

Attire & Rule Changes

Traditional Kodokan Judo requires all white Judogi and these are mandatory at all A.K.J.A. Tournaments. States or Clubs are reminded that juniors under 10 years will compete under a multiple point scoring system with continuous time operative. Read and download the new rules here.
